AUAP Activities

ACTIVITIES International and General Conferences AUAP International Conferences are held at least once a year, and are an ideal forum to network with other universities from around the world. Such conferences provide an ideal setting to learn and share best practices with other universities, while celebrating and enjoying rich cultures from different countries. Members of AUAP are actively encouraged to submit proposals to host AUAP conferences in their respective countries/universities.

General Assembly Meetings AUAP General Assembly is held biannually. In-between the General Assemblies, AUAP organizes Annual Conferences, and the Learning and Sharing Forums. A regular feature of these conferences is signing of the Memoranda of Understanding among interested members looking for potential partners for collaboration. Student and Staff Exchanges Student and staff exchanges are arranged between the universities and the institutions that have formed partnerships through memorandums of understanding (MoUs). Professorial exchanges are encouraged as a means of strengthening ties between such institutions. Academic Fora and Learning and Sharing Activities An academic forum can be arranged by any member, and publicized through AUAP’s vast membership and marketing database. At these fora, topics which are deemed important to the members are discussed. Similar to Academic Forum, Learning and Sharing fora focus on discussions between higher educational leaders trying to address any challenges that are facing members. AUAP has developed programs that assist in this regard. These are promoted and run concurrently with members as co-hosts.

UNESCO Interaction AUAP is an accredited NGO with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization with headquarters in Paris and Bangkok. AUAP members have an opportunity to participate in activities carried out through UNESCO’s Division of Higher Education, as well as present it with proposals for funding through the participation in programs that are especially developed in assisting higher education institutions in developing countries.

WFUNA Programs AUAP has entered into a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Federation of the United Nations Associations (WFUNA). WFUNA's Secretariat is based in New York City and at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, with offices also in Seoul, Korea and Brussels. WFUNA is a global nonprofit organization representing and coordinating the membership of over 100 national United Nations Associations (UNAs) around the world, and their thousands of constituents. Guided by the vision of United Nations that as a powerful force in meeting common global challenges and opportunities, WFUNA works to strengthen and improve the United Nations. WFUNA and AUAP have agreed to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a cooperative framework within which AUAP and WFUNA will develop and implement educational programs as well as other activities related to the field of education in UN-related matters. Under this agreement, AUAP and WFUNA will promote UN values through educational programs and activities as a concrete manifestation of their common goals to defend and strengthen cooperation, global citizenship and world peace. As a first step towards achieving these aims, the parties have identified six thematic areas for collaboration to include: 1. United Nations values; 2. Global Citizenship; 3. Peace and Security; 4. Sustainable Development; 5. Human Rights; and 6. Asia – Pacific educational cooperation.

CGNK Programs The Center for Global Nonkilling (GCNK) in consultative status with the United Nations has 19 research committees that bring together some 800 scholars from over 300 Universities globally that are engaged in building non-killing peace initiatives for socio-economic, ecological, environmental and sustainable development. There is a big geographic imbalance within the CGNK, with greater representation from Europe and the USA, and a very few numbers of universities being represented from the Asia-Pacific region. AUAP has entered into an MOU with CGNK to play an instrumental role in turning this situation around, inviting academics from among its members who have research interests in the field of non-killing, violence-prevention, conflict resolution, and peace studies, and to take part in developmental and sustainability programs under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. The research committees of CGNK will provide best tools for creative approaches, learning and academic collaboration and information sharing with the members of AUAP. This will play important role for all future collaborations between CGNK and AUAP, in keeping with AUAP’s stated mission to promote universal peace and international understanding through education, and for socio-economic development and (universal) peace between nations.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES Student Competitions Student competitions can be arranged and hosted by any member. These events encourage excellence among students by exposing them to new cultures, ideas and innovations. As part of AUAP activities, sports competition such as basketball and cricket, debates, cheerleading and English speech competitions have been added as future activities. AUAP members are actively encouraged to join or host such sports and other events.

Global Leadership Program The purpose of this program is to enhance student leadership, relational, academic, and cultural abilities. AUAP members are encouraged to host this program, which has immense impact on students in their future employability prospects and their future working lives.

AUAP Secretariat can provide you further information on this program.

Sports and Cultural Activities AUAP promotes inter-university sports and cultural activities and competitions amongst its member to further the cause of cooperation and collaboration in the Asia and the Pacific region. Such activities fosters a spirit of mutual respect and recognition amongst the youth of the region.

Industry Academia Collaboration In order to ensure innovation, entrepreneurship and enterprise, AUAP actively engages leaders from corporates and the industry to interact with the academic leaders and the universities of the region to develop partnerships that promote employability, cutting edge skilling and industry exchanges through immersion programs and internships in the best interest of students.

Student Exchange Programs Student exchange programs are arranged between universities that have formed partnerships through their individual memorandums of understanding (MOUs). The respective university members arrange these activities among themselves, and AUAP plays an important role in helping build bridges between members. Under the Student Exchange Programs, AUAP also provides a single point of contact to efficiently help and arrange the logistics of student exchanges to their desired destinations. This process is arranged directly with and through the individual partnerships developed between members. As a network of universities, the AUAP can provide all the connections that are needed to internationalize your university.

Internationalization of your University AUAP can help universities to internationalize and form associations with other universities, and expand and create connections throughout the world. In addition, AUAP connects all relevant private and public sectors with universities. Importantly, AUAP creates an opportunity for external parties (Government and Industry) to provide inputs to AUAP member universities in respect of their requirements. This valuable information can then enable individual universities to tailor their curricula to maximize employment opportunities for their students.

WHY JOIN THE AUAP? Membership of AUAP will give your university access to world class excellence and quality through academic endeavors and exchanges, professional training and the skilling for students. Membership will also be beneficial for the university leadership, the staff and the management teams. AUAP will assist your university to build important relationships in the Asia-Pacific region as well as internationally, and will provide its vast knowledge repository and outreach to greatly enhance the reach and reputation of your institution. Importantly, AUAP has developed exchange and industry immersion programs, international competitions and cultural exchanges like sports activities for students that greatly enhances their international exposure and experiences. This in turn increases the students’ employability prospects in the future. Membership of AUAP provides many benefits to your university.
