2018 Independence Day celebrated in BU

Bicol University joined the celebration of the 120th Philippine Independence Day this June 12, 2018 through a commemoration ceremony which was held at the Albay Provincial Sports Complex in BU’s Main Campus in Legazpi City.

Themed: “Pagbabagong Ipaglalaban, Alay sa Masaganang Kinabukasan” (Change to be defended, an offering for a prosperous future), the said ceremony was attended by more than a hundred participants, including students, faculty members, officials and personnel of Bicol University. This year’s Independence Day celebration was hosted by Bicol University’s College of Science (BUCS).

The faculty members and officials of BUCS, led by Dean Prof. Jocelyn Serrano, headed the proceedings of the ceremony; including the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, the recitation of the Prayer for the Nation, the Oath to the Philippine Flag, and the Civil Servants’ Oath. Showing the university’s complete commitment to excellence as a gift to our country, participants of the ceremony also recited the Climate Change Adaptation Pledge of Commitment and BU’s Vision and Quality Policy, along with the singing of the BU Hymn.

As the head of the host college, Prof. Serrano addressed the participants of the event, wherein she talk about the value of the independence the Filipino people now enjoy. BU’s President Dr. Arnulfo Mascari?as also delivered his message in the said gathering, to which he stated the importance of our hard-earned independence in our country’s academic advancement throughout the years.
