Third AUAP Speech Competition Held in Bangkok
The Third Students English Speech Competition of AUAP was hosted by Siam University in Bangkok on November 23 and 24, 2017. For the first time, the competition was not only for college and university students but also for high school students. At the tertiary level, a total of 57 contestants representing 31 colleges and universities from seven countries competed for the top three prizes. At the secondary level, 11 students representing nine schools from two countries came. The two- day competition was opened by Dr Pornchai Mongkolvanich, President of Siam University. The top prize at the tertiary level was obtained by Mr. Benjamin Mark Bastian, a student from Universiti Teknologi Petronas in Malaysia. The second prize went to Mr.Xing Zhen Wang of SIAS International University in China. Miss Candice Faye Kristen Lleses of the University of Mindanao from the Philippines and Miss Qian Li Lim of Unitar International University from Malaysia shared the third prize. The fourth prize called Honorable Mention was awarded to Mr.Edwin Lim Chear Win of Multi Media University from Malaysia.
At the secondary level, the top prize went to Miss Kanlayakorn Grace Clarke of St Joseph School of Bangna in Thailand. The second and third prizes were awarded to two students from the Philippines, namely, Miss Klyra V. Orbien of Marinduque State College and Miss Jihanna Mae Tuttuh of Notre Dame of Jolo College respectively.
All contestants in both levels were required to deliver their speeches for five minutes. The topic for tertiary level students was “Cross- Culture Dialogues and Sustainable Development Goals”. In the secondary level, the topic was “Greater Involvement of High School Students in National Development”. This was the Preliminary part of the competition. The final part was extemporaneous and those who passed in the preliminary round were asked to deliver their speeches on the topic “ Who Am I ?
